Getting Rest after Duodenal Switch Surgery

sleep

A combination of maintaining a good diet and exercise, supported by Duodenal Switch Surgery will help you end your weight loss struggle and bring proven results.  Everyone knows about diet and exercise because they are difficult habits to build. Another important aspect though is getting enough sleep. It is hard to motivate yourself to work out if you start each day groggy. When you’re tired, it’s tempting to to make a lazy unhealthy meal instead of the proper meals you’ll need to stay healthy after duodenal switch surgery.

Sleep is essential for our bodies and our minds, and many of us simply do not get enough. An estimated 60 million Americans suffer from insomnia, which can bog you down in an endless cycle of sleepless nights and restless days. If you’ve been having trouble getting enough sleep after duodenal switch, it may be time to take a new approach to your nocturnal habits and sleeping environment.

Ready to enjoy all the benefits of a good night’s rest? Help yourself out by:

Creating a Routine

Our bodies are regulated by natural cycles that tell our bodies when it’s time to wake up and wind down. You can take advantage of this by consistently going to bed and waking up at the same times, as well as doing the same things to help yourself get ready for bed each night.

Set a sleep schedule that allows you the seven to nine hours you’ll need and stick with it every day (weekends included). With time, you’ll find yourself able to fall asleep faster and wake up feeling more energized.

You should also take time for a few relaxing activities before bed that tell your body it’s time to prepare for sleep. This can include many different things, from taking a warm bath to reading a book, and will help you gradually transition into a sleepy state. Just try to avoid electronics, as some studies show us that staring at screens before bed can impede your ability to sleep.

Rethinking Your Bedroom

Your bedroom should be the ultimate sleeping sanctuary. Its primary purpose is helping you rest, so be sure it’s achieving that goal by:

  • Getting comfortable. Cozy bedding is a must in every bedroom. Do your best to make your bed as inviting as possible by investing in bedding that meets your personal preferences.
  • Ridding yourself of distractions. If your TV, tablet or pet is keeping your mind engaged past bedtime, it may be time to put limits on when these distractions are allowed in your room.
  • Cutting down on light and noise. Your bedroom should be dark and quiet. If it isn’t, think about putting up blackout curtains and investing in a source of white noise like a fan.
