Getting Organized for Weight Loss

Thursday, June 11th, 2009 12:00 AM

When you begin your weight loss journey after surgery, getting organized is key for being successful in your endeavor. Here's a list of some of the things you need to have together in order to be successful:

  1. Food diary: Be sure to have a food diary with a pen or pencil accessible at all times so you can be accountable for your eating.
  2. Measuring cups and spoons: Measuring cups and spoons are some of the most important tools to utilize when trying to lose weight because they prevent you from overeating. Make sure you have both available to you in an easily accessible location.
  3. Recipes: Organize all your recipes and have them in a book or box in your kitchen. This will help you avoid snacking and ordering out.
  4. Grocery lists: Create your grocery lists every week on the same day and make yourself go shopping. When you don't have the right foods in the house, you will be more likely to lapse and eat something unhealthy.
  5. Get your exercise equipment ready: If you are using a treadmill, stationary bike or other indoor equipment, make sure it is ready to go. Remove the clothes that are hanging on it and set it up so it is ready to go. If you are using free weights or resistance bands, make sure you have them together with all your other exercise materials.

How to Know You are Resisting Change

Changing your eating and exercising routines is all about embracing change. For some, this is more difficult than they might anticipate.

Reversing Social Isolation

Sometimes, when we feel bad about ourselves, we begin to withdraw from social activities and seclude ourselves from friends and family. Often, as our self image deteriorates, our willingness to be around people also shrivels.

Alcohol after Gastric Bypass Surgery

Getting drunk after a glass of wine? It may seem like a long shot but a small study shows that people who undergo gastric bypass surgery get drunk faster and take longer to sober up.

What Ever Happened to Ron Lester?

Ron Lester was an actor in movies and television, starring in such films as Varsity Blues. Lester weighed in at over 500 pounds when he decided to undergo duodenal-switch surgery because of his obesity.

Self Confidence

Everyone has self confidence. It may not be as much as you wish you had, but knowing you have a base can make growing your self confidence easier.
